Athletic Movement Competency skills (AMCS)
ASTA believes that all individuals require good mobility and stability and thus are able to perform movements in a competent manner. ASTA implement a testing battery in which an individual’s movement competency is assessed and based on the results, a programme is prescribed which is aimed at improving mobility and stability of the various joints around the body.
People often suffer from nagging injuries which affect their ability to participate in the activity or sport of their choice. Therefore, by incorporating exercises that lead to better movement, the risk of injury may be reduced while also developing a strong foundation on which to build. For example, limitations at the shoulder joint may make it harder to perform overhead exercises. Therefore, by incorporating exercises aimed at strengthening the muscles around the shoulder joint and improving the range of motion, those limitations may be addressed.
